The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are then reinvested to build more houses. In addition to a mortgage, every Habitat homeowner is required to invest hundreds of hours of labor (sweat equity) into building their home. This system promotes individual dignity, ownership in the new home, and a sense of partnership with the community. </p><p>And the benefits last far beyond today or next year...</p><p><strong>Children of Habitat homeowners are more likely to:</strong> </p><p>- Get better grades </p><p>- Graduate from high school </p><p>- View education as a means of upward mobility </p><p>The ripple effect of improving one family's housing situation can spread and create a brighter future for entire neighborhoods.</p><p><strong>A Brush With Kindness</strong></p><p>Habitat for Humanity has expanded our service to the Minot community by establishing "A Brush With Kindness" as part of our Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. A Brush With Kindness assists low income homeowners in maintaining the exterior of their homes to benefit entire neighborhoods.</p><p>Homeowners interested in receiving assistance must apply and meet Habitat for Humanity's qualification criteria regarding need, income, and partnership.
